Gender and number agreement
Match adjectives and determiners to their noun.
The pattern
- Common adjective pattern: rojo, roja, rojos, rojas.
- Many adjectives do not change for gender: interesante → interesantes.
Las ventanas están abiertas.
The windows are open.
Why it works: Ventanas is feminine and plural, so abiertas matches it in both gender and number.
Notice the difference
El balcón está abierto.
The balcony is open.
Why it works: Balcón is masculine and singular, so the adjective becomes abierto.
One thing to watch for
Not every adjective ends in -o/-a. Learn the word’s own pattern.
