Putting words together
Choosing rojo or roja
Adjective gender
Many adjectives change to match the gender of the noun they describe.
The pattern
- An adjective ending in -o often changes to -a with a feminine noun.
- Some adjectives use the same form for both genders, such as grande and interesante.
El cuarto está preparado.
The room is ready.
Why it works: Cuarto is masculine, so preparado ends in -o.
Notice the difference
La casa está preparada.
The house is ready.
Why it works: Casa is feminine, so preparada ends in -a.
One thing to watch for
Do not change every adjective to -a: la casa grande, not granda.
