Putting words together
Joining a pronoun to a verb
Pronouns attached to an infinitive
An object pronoun can attach to the end of an infinitive: comprar + lo → comprarlo.
The pattern
- Write the infinitive and pronoun as one word.
- With verbs such as querer, poder and ir a, you can often put the pronoun before the conjugated verb instead.
Quiero comprarlo.
I want to buy it.
Why it works: Lo attaches to comprar, which stays in the infinitive.
Notice the difference
Lo quiero comprar.
I want to buy it.
Why it works: Here lo moves before quiero. Both versions mean the same thing.
One thing to watch for
Choose one position. Do not repeat the pronoun: lo quiero comprarlo.
