Putting words together

Choosing le or les

Choosing le or les

Use le or les for the person who receives something or benefits from an action.

The pattern

Le mando una foto a mi abuela.

I send my grandmother a photo.

Why it works: The photo is what you send; your grandmother is the recipient.

Notice the difference

Les mando una foto a mis padres.

I send my parents a photo.

Why it works: Two recipients require les.

One thing to watch for

When le or les comes directly before lo, la, los or las, change it to se: Se la mando (I send it to her/them).
