Writing & less common forms
A rare form you might recognize
Future subjunctive (rare)
Recognize rare legal, formal, or fixed expressions—not ordinary future conversation.
The pattern
- Forms below follow: yo, tú, él/ella/usted, nosotros, vosotros, ellos/ustedes. Vosotros is mainly used in Spain; ustedes uses the final form.
- From the ellos preterite minus -ron: -re, -res, -re, -remos, -reis, -ren. Nosotros has an accent: habláremos.
- Forms include hablare, tuviere and fuere.
Sea lo que fuere, seguiremos adelante.
Whatever it may be, we will carry on.
Why it works: Fuere is the rare future-subjunctive form of ser in this fixed concessive expression. Recognizing it is useful; producing it is not necessary for everyday conversation.
Notice the difference
Sea lo que sea, seguiremos adelante.
Whatever it may be, we will carry on.
Why it works: Present subjunctive sea gives a common everyday alternative with the same general meaning.
One thing to watch for
For everyday future-time clauses, use present subjunctive: cuando llegue. This rare form is not a fluency requirement.
